What does Sovereign Grace mean?
|
|
Sovereign refers to God; it means that He is king, and He sovereignly rules over all He has made.
Grace refers to how God saves men. It means salvation is not earned by what we do or who we are, but rather by something God Himself does for us. God's grace provides two things for us:
1) Grace provides forgiveness for our sins by Jesus' death in our place on the cross;
2) Grace provides Jesus' righteousness on our account, since our own goodness would never be sufficient to fulfill God's law and earn us a place in Heaven. According to Scriptures, Jesus is the only man who ever has or ever could live sinlessly

So, Sovereign- God is ruler;
Grace- An unearned gift God gives man.
Put them together and you have this- God is the King who determines to graciously rescue His lost people.
And how does Jesus reach, rescue, and keep His people? "Of His own will He brought us forth
by the Word of truth"
James 1:18
By His Word, and that's what Sovereign Grace Church is all about, because that same word sanctifies us day by day:
"...Receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls."
